In this segment, we dive into three key intentions for a healthier gut in 2024! This includes:

Fiber Focus

Boost your gut health by upping your fiber game. Fiber is broken down by our good gut bacteria and chemicals called Short Chain Fatty Acids are produced, which help improve insulin sensitivity, weight regulation, and reduced inflammation

Aim for 25-35g daily with nuts, seeds, legumes, veggies, fruits, and whole grains. Think almonds, chia seeds, lentils, tempeh, and berries as some great fiber boosters.

Sleep Hygiene

Quality sleep is a game-changer for your gut microbiome. Make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool, and limit caffeine and alcohol. Instead of alcohol try herbal teas: chamomile, lavender & valerian root all help with sleep. Morning sun exposure sets the stage for a good night's sleep.

Fermented Foods & Live Microbes

Introduce live microbes through fermented goodies like kefir, kimchi, and sauerkraut. Fermented foods contain live microbes as well as many compounds such as bioactive peptides which have been shown to help support a diverse microbiome, reduce inflammation, and consequently help improve overall digestive health.

Probiotic supplements, with high quality research behind them, can also help specific digestive troubles. Remember, consistency is key – give it 3-4 weeks to see benefits!

As you can see, there are a few key ways we can help support a healthy gut and microbiome going into the new year, which has an abundance of cascading benefits - better immunity, mood, metabolism, hormones, and energy!
